Clock Tower Entrance

The beautiful clocks at our front entrance are such a standout feature at The Knysna Waterfront. Imported from Smith of Derby in the United Kingdom—one of Britain’s oldest and largest clockmakers—they add a touch of timeless elegance, serving as a memorable feature of the Waterfront.

Waterfront Junction

Nestled amongst shops at The Knysna Waterfront is a small junction that diverges from the main pathway, drawing visitors of all ages. One section of the Waterfront Junction was crafted by Rinke Blok, whose exceptional skill and artistry are evident in this enchanting display. It highlights charming scenes, including elephants in the Knysna Forest and the historical Knysna train station. Families and train enthusiasts alike gather to watch the trains travel along the tracks, sparking excitement and wonder in everyone.

Pheonix Rising Statue

On 7 June 2017, Knysna faced devastating wildfires that ravaged the area, destroying homes, causing considerable damage, and causing the tragic loss of several lives. A tremendous firefighting response eventually brought the fires under control, allowing the community to begin rebuilding efforts. In tribute to the victims and heroes of this catastrophe, the Phoenix Rising Statue was erected at the Knysna Waterfront, symbolising both rebirth and resilience. The well-known artist and craftsman Stephen Colgate is the creative force behind this amazing masterpiece.

Lighthouse Information Board

Inspired by the nautical theme and breathtaking harbour views, the unique lighthouse-shaped information board was created. Unlike traditional spherical lighthouses, this one takes on a triangular form. One side features a video showcasing The Waterfront’s charming shops and incredible restaurants, offering a glimpse into the many attractions. On another side, a wayfinder displays the centre’s map, helping visitors easily navigate and find all the information they need.

Bondi Statue

The Knysna Waterfront erected the beloved Bondi Statue in favour of raising funds for Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS). The statue is a depiction of Bondi, the loyal dog of the crew of HMS Verbena, which played a vital role during World War II as a naval vessel involved in crucial maritime operations.

Bascule Bridge

This double decker single-leaf Bascule Bridge at the Knysna Waterfront is one-of-a-kind in South Africa and stops visitors in their tracks. Children and adults alike gather around to witness the bridge’s smooth, fluid motion as it raises and lowers to let boats pass beneath. With its impressive design, the bridge offers iconic views and has become a favourite photo spot. You can take in the scene while enjoying a meal or drink at one of our restaurants or while browsing through our shops. The Bascule Bridge is an essential part of the larger Knysna Waterfront experience, adding to its unique charm.

Directional Signpost

The iconic directional signpost at the Knysna Waterfront, commissioned by the Rotary Club of Knysna, features wooden arrows pointing to major cities alongside their distances from Knysna. Visitors enjoy discovering how far various destinations are and often point to the signs, creating a fantastic photo opportunity.

Mural

In 2023, talented local artist Lance Khoury was invited to paint a mural at the south entrance of The Knysna Waterfront. The artwork celebrates life by the water, featuring whimsical houses, boats, and hot air balloons that enchant everyone who sees it. This vibrant piece adds splashes of colour and joy to the entrance.

Reflections of Knysna

After pass by our stunning mural, you will be captivated by the Reflections of Knysna art installation. Coordinated by local artist and art teacher Faith DuPlessis, forty-eight members of the Art House Collective came together to transform 159 wooden blocks into an exquisite art collection. In each piece, Knysna’s rich history, inspiring natural beauty, iconic landmarks, unique flora, and fauna, and even tales of the area’s magical legends are depicted.
